  • Minor injuries

Behavioral Health Services

Mental Health and substance abuse counseling will be offered by our therapist. We will provide:
  • Mental health screening and evaluation
  • Counseling and treatment of any mental health and substance abuse issues
  • Individual, family and group education/treatment sessions.

Dental Services

A Registered Dental Hygienist(RDH) is available to provide:
  • Oral health screening
  • Routine cleaning
  • Hygiene education
  • Referrals for restorative services, provided by a dentist at our public health dental clinic on Union Street in Bangor or a dentist of parent's choice.

After Hours Care
If you name BSSHC as your child's primary car provider, call Penobscot Community Health Care at 922-2636 and choose Option 2.

Why should my child use the Student Health Centers?
The convenience of an on-site medical clinic will save you time from your work schedule and will allow the student to receive immediate and convenient health care. Ultimately, our goal is to reduce absenteeism and increase access to high quality health care.

How will this affect my relationship with my primary care provider?
Treatment provided at the BSSHC will not take the place of your current primary care provider. Instead, sick children can receive immediate medical care when needed, without the need of the parent to leave work.

All results of the medical visit will be documented and the information faxed immediately to the designated primary care provider.

If your child does not have a Primary Care Provider, the BSSHC will provide that service upon parent's request.

How would my child make an appointment?
When you enroll your child he/she will be scheduled for an initial appointment with the clinic to establish services.

Should the student become ill during school hours, he/she should report to the school nurse. The school nurse will refer the student to the BSSHC for further care if needed.

How will I be billed when my child is seen in the clinic?
Following the visit to BSSHC, a bill will be submitted directly to your insurance provider or MaineCare for payment. Bills not covered by insurance will be mailed to the parent/guardian for payment.

The Brewer School Department and Penobscot Community Health Care are working to make sure that all clinical services are available to any Brewer student, at the request of the parent/guardian, regardless of their ability to pay the full fees.

A sliding fee scale is offered to individuals who do not qualify for MaineCare but have limited income and ability to pay. Based upon the family's monthly income and expenses, a reduced fee will be established that is manageable for the student/family. For more information about the sliding fee scale, please call the BSSHC clinic to see if you qualify and to learn the application process.

Confidentiality
Privacy is an important part of an effective health care service. Students are much less likely to seek health care services and disclose all relevant information necessary for their care if they feel the visit is not confidential. State and federal regulations govern release of information to families. Health services staff will strongly encourage students to involve their parents/guardians in discussions of their health.

BSSHC will maintain secure, confidential patient information in an electronic medical record.
