Message from our Principal
|
As I begin my third year working in the Brewer Schools, I continue my
work with kindergarten students, teachers and parents at Capri Street
School and the State Street School as Grades 4-5 principal. Both
schools have a dedicated staff and students who work together to ensure
a positive and successful educational experience. I look forward to
providing a quality educational experience for the children of Brewer.
The past school year saw many changes, and I would like to thank
parents, students and staff for their help as we worked together to
provide students with a safe and nurturing environment in which to
learn. I believe the staff at both schools fosters a climate within the
buildings that promotes the excellent academic gains that our students
have achieved in past years. Community of Caring continues to be
infused into the curriculum and allows us to form caring relationships
within the school community. The support of parents and community is so
important and we will ask for it often.
At Capri Street
School, teachers will begin the third year of a literacy initiative
with students. The Maine Literacy Partnership at the University of
Maine has trained all kindergarten teachers in their model based on the
latest research in the teaching of reading and writing. Additionally,
in partnership with Community Health and Counseling Services, Capri
Street School will again receive grant money that enables our
kindergarten children to explore the art of dance with a trained
professional dancer throughout the year.
Each year, I look forward to welcoming our newest students,
kindergartners, and their parents as we begin the education journey
together.
