About Mrs. Staffiere
|
|
An
educator for 35 years, Principal Joan Staffiere will oversee all
teachers and students at both the State and Capri Street Schools for
the Brewer School Department.
Joan, now in her third year as a
building principal, started her teaching career as a fifth-grade
teacher at the Elmwood School in Syracuse, NY. The Bangor native then
went on to teach fourth graders at the Potsdam Central School in
Potsdam, NY.
Mrs. Staffiere returned to her roots in Eastern
Maine holding elementary teaching positions at both the Airline
Community and Dedham Schools. In 1994, she shifted gears and became an
administrator, accepting a job as the first full-time building
principal at the Eddington School in MSAD #63. While in Eddington, she
dedicated 10 years providing leadership and guidance to over 200
students and staff members.
Joan is best known for her strong
community and team building skills. Her weekly morning assemblies are a
big hit with many of the students as she can often be found reading
them stories that inspire many of the ideals found in her "Community of
Caring," theme for school supervision.
"Each day presents a
new challenge," says Mrs. Staffiere. "My goals are to assist the
students, staff members and community of Brewer in obtaining the
highest quality education."
Joan holds a BS in Elementary
Education from the University of Maine at Farmington. She later
attended the University of Maine in Orono, and obtained both a Master's
Degree in Administration and Certificate of Advanced Study in
Leadership.
Mrs. Staffiere is married to Gene Staffiere, who is
currently employed as the Northern Maine Division Director for the
March of Dimes. She has two sons, Tony (30), an assistant women's
basketball coach and athletic department recruiting coordinator at
Mercy College (NY) and Joseph (27), who is an educational technician
and behavioral specialist.
