Message from our Principal Gray Witch

As I begin my third year working in the Brewer Schools, I continue my work with kindergarten students, teachers and parents at Capri Street School and the State Street School as Grades 4-5 principal. Both schools have a dedicated staff and students who work together to ensure a positive and successful educational experience. I look forward to providing a quality educational experience for the children of Brewer. The past school year saw many changes, and I would like to thank parents, students and staff for their help as we worked together to provide students with a safe and nurturing environment in which to learn. I believe the staff at both schools fosters a climate within the buildings that promotes the excellent academic gains that our students have achieved in past years. Community of Caring continues to be infused into the curriculum and allows us to form caring relationships within the school community. The support of parents and community is so important and we will ask for it often.

At the State Street School, our staff will continue work with our Literacy Specialist, Dr. Paula Moore, in the areas of reading fluency and the 6+1 Traits of Writing Program. Staff will continue to analyze data from the Maine Educational Assessment as they make decisions to improve instruction and student achievement. In partnership with Community Health and Counseling Services, State Street School will again receive grant money to fund two art programs, one for parents and students and one for grandparents and students. Groups will participate in three nights of art instruction and exploration, both at school and at the Maine Discovery Museum.

It's always fun to hear what the fourth and fifth graders have done during the summer as well. Please feel free to call or stop in if you have questions. We'd be happy to assist you.
