Old Business:
High School Facade: Mike Pullen of WBRC presented a plan to redo the front of Brewer High School to make in look attractive to the public. Mike had many great ideas to improve not only the building itself but to also improve the lighting, parking and landscaping. Several questions were asked by the trustees regarding building materials and time frames. Mr. Pullen indicated that the project could definitely be phased. In general the trustees were quite pleased with the presentation. The estimate cost of this project would be $769,000 approximately. Project probably could not be done this summer given the current time frame.
High School Roof: Further review of the scope of the work and areas that need to be done this year indicates the probable cost to be about $660,000. The roof needs to be done this year or greater problems will occur this winter.
Conversion to Natural Gas: The cost to retrofit the high school to natural gas and middle school to natural gas is approximately $110,000. The good news is the probable payback for this project is 3 years.
Energy Improvements at BHS: Dr. Lee explained several lighting projects and other energy savings initiatives that would cost $47,245 less any rebates to implement but would pay for themselves in a few years.
Central Office Retrofit: The plan that was proposed by P.M. McKay was reviewed by Carpenter Associates and found to have some flaws. Carpenter's report indicates the heating and ventilation as proposed is inadequate and the cost to do it correctly would add $240,000 to the project bringing the total cost to $400,000.
The total cost of all of the above is 2 million dollars. Lester Young explained in detail various financing options and the implication to the school budget. A meeting will be held shortly with city officials, council members, school committee members and trustees to explain all the construction needs and to gauge interest as to city council support.
A motion was made by Alan Kochis, seconded by Ruth Spellman to move forward with all of the above projects, pending favorable results at the soon to be held joint meeting. Motion was approved by a 4-0 vote.
New Business: None
Meeting was adjourned at 9:15PM Alan Kochis, Secretary/Treasurer
