Brewer Community School students broke several longstanding records during the 18th annual Super Dance fundraiser for Muscular Dystrophy held on March 30, 2012. With outstanding support from fifth graders attending the dance for the first time, students raised $8,454.81 beating out 2006 record of $6,607. Twenty one students collected $100 or more for MDA, more than tripling any other year’s participation at this level. Top fundraisers for this event were eighth grader, Nickolai, fifth grader, Aaron and seventh grader, Logan. Nickolai is the first student ever to be the top fundraiser for each of the three years he has been eligible to participate bringing in a total of $2,471.
Since the Super Dance began in 1995, middle school students in Brewer have raised a grand total of $81,758.72. These fundraisers demonstrate the altruistic spirit of our early adolescents. The success of this event would not have been possible without the support of the BCS students, staff, parents, MDA and community businesses who donated time, effort, raffle prizes and money. We truly are a Community of Caring.

In the national ranking they came in 19th, 20th, 28th and 31st respectively.
Bravo! Très bon travail!

The Music Chapter 104 Gifted and Talented Students participated in a workshop with Mike Bennett on African Drumming. In a drum circle format, students quickly progressed from basic drum techniques to playing complex poly rhythms and communicating via music. Mr. Bennett also presented interesting cultural information from his trips to Africa to study with native musicians.
