Spectrum Is Offering Free Internet Again! "To help ease the strain for families and teachers who still lack broadband, we will again offer free internet service for 60 days beginning September 21, 2020. The offer includes free access to Spectrum Internet at speeds up to 200 Mbps in most markets, in-home Wi-Fi, and a self-installation kit for households with K-12 and/or college students or educators who do not already have a Spectrum Internet subscription for 60 days. School photos will be taken on Tuesday, September 22 (Cohort B) and Thursday, September 24 (Cohort A). Students who are 'remote learners' should be at the high school on their respective cohort day at 12 noon. Students have been given order forms, but if you need another, they are available in the main office.

LAPTOP PICKUP IS HERE (almost)! Laptop Pickup will take place Wednesday and Thursday, August 19 & 20, at Brewer High School. This is only for students in grades 10-12 who turned in their laptops after last school year. (Freshmen laptops have not yet been delivered to us.) The annual laptop fee is $25 and must be paid at that time. We can not take credit/debit cards, so cash and checks only, please. Every person entering the building must be wearing a mask, and we ask that everyone practice social distancing. Hours are Wednesday, 4-6 PM, and Thursday, 11 AM - 1 PM. See you then!

Yearbooks are in! If you have purchased a Brewer High School yearbook, and it is paid in full, you can pick up your book tomorrow (Wednesday) from 9 AM to 2 PM. We will have curbside pickup on the tennis courts side of the school. If you owe a balance or would like to buy one of the extra books, you'll be able to pick up a book on Thursday, 10 AM to 1 PM.
Congratulations to Peyton Pelletier and Mataya Philbrick for earning the Seal of Biliteracy in French! Students who are proficient in English and an additional language earn the Seal of Biliteracy by demonstrating their skills on an approved assessment. Peyton and Mataya will have a Seal of Biliteracy affixed to their diploma and their accomplishment will be noted on their permanent high school transcripts. Bien joué!

A reminder, that FILL THE ALFOND 2020 is this Friday (January 10) at UMaine. The folks in the main office at Brewer High School are selling pre-sale tickets so you can skip the wait at the rink. Adult tickets are $5 each and student/child tickets are $3. Please note: School passes are not accepted for this event, as it is a hockey fundraiser that helps fund the district's most expensive interscholastic activity. Congratulations to the Brewer High School Mock Trial Team for advancing to the state finals! This past Saturday, BHS defeated St. Dominic High School in the semi-finals held at the Cumberland County Courthouse in Portland. The team will return to Portland tomorrow (Tuesday) to take on Cape Elizabeth in the state finals. Go Witches!
Congratulations to Zoey Rackler, a Junior at Brewer High School, for having her artwork chosen to be part of the Maine Excellence in Art Education Exhibition at the Capital Complex in Augusta. Her artwork will be one of 45 pieces from students across the state and will be exhibited from December 9, 2019 to April 30, 2020. There will be a public celebration on March 11 in the Statehouse Hall of Flags.

We are excited to announce that Mrs. MacDonald’s English classes at the high school, and the first grade classes at Brewer Community School, received a grant in the amount of $3000 dollars from our local Walmart in Brewer. The high school students are excited to use this money to write and publish personalized children’s books for the entire first grade class at BCS and to support the, “Building Community Through the Arts” program at the high school. Brewer High School and the Brewer School Department are deeply shocked and saddened to learn that one of our Seniors, Jordan Parkhurst, died in a car crash last (Saturday) evening on the Wiswell Road in Brewer. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Jordan’s family and friends during this most difficult time. Jordan made our school community a better place. Brewer High School has activated a crisis response team and will have counselors and supports in place for all students and staff members when we return to school tomorrow (Monday). We would like to thank Brewer Public Safety for working with Brewer High School and the Brewer School Department in dealing with this tragedy.

Attention Brewer High School parents: If you were not able to pick up your student’s school laptop during one of our Laptop Pickup Days this month, your student will have the opportunity to do so during the first two days of school. Seniors and Juniors will be able to get their laptops during designated times on Thursday (August 29); Sophomores and Freshmen will be able to get theirs on Friday (August 30). Students will need to pay the $25 laptop fee (CASH or CHECKS only) before they will be issued a laptop.

The Brewer High School Quiz Show Team competed against Falmouth High School at the Maine Public Television studio in Lewiston today. They represented Brewer High School well.
