Family Update

Hi BCS Families!

Believe it or not, we have just passed the 100th day of our school year! We are so proud of our staff and students for their hard work this year! Here is some news and information about things going on here at school.

  • Winter is a busy time for us, even after the school day ends. This winter, students have enjoyed basketball, cheering, chess, drama, and elementary chorus.

  • Cold weather is still here! Please be sure your student comes dressed for the cold and snow. Our K-5 students go outside for recess as long as the “feels like” temperature is 10 or above! The cold weather also means there are plenty of germs going around. Please be sure to keep your student home, and call the office if they are not feeling well.

  • Middle School Arrival time is 7:30-7:50 and Elementary Arrival is 8:10-8:30, and the outside doors are locked prior to the start of their school day. Middle school students should not arrive prior to 7:30 and Elementary prior to 8:10, as we do not have supervision before these times. Middle school students may not stay after school unless they are with a teacher or in a supervised school activity. Hanging out on the playground is also not allowed until after elementary students are dismissed at 3:00.  Thank you for your help with this.

  • During the month of February, the Maine DOE sponsors the “Read to ME” challenge. The Read to ME Challenge is an opportunity to contribute to a child’s literacy growth by reading aloud in any language to one or more children for at least 15 minutes. Those who wish can also use #ReadtoME or #ReadaloudME to post a photo or video on social media with your challenge to others to read aloud 15 minutes to a child or children they know.

  • We have a busy month ahead! Here are some upcoming dates to be aware of:

    • February 21-25- Vacation Week

    • March 2nd- Early Release Day

    • March 11th- End of Trimester 2

    • March 17th: Report cards come home

    • March 18th- Teacher Workshop Day

  • Please be on the lookout for dates for spring concerts.  The elementary chorus, 5/6 band, and 7/ 8 band will be showcasing their talents this spring in the PAC.

  • We hope you all have a fantastic vacation week and we look forward to seeing everyone back in school on Monday, February 28th!
